Simulation Control Panel & Devices Guide
The Simulation Control Panel allows you to manage and control your simulations in real-time, providing an immersive and dynamic learning experience for your students.
Devices allow you to set a laptop or tablet to automatically take students to a specific simulation upon login.
Accessing the Simulation Control Panel
- Create a new activity selecting the Simulation experience, as this is the only experience that enables access to the simulation control panel. For more information on how to create an activity please refer to our Activities Guide.
- Navigate to the simulation activity you want to control, and select the Simulation Control panel button to the right of the activity.
- You are now in the Simulation Control Panel, read the (Using the Simulation Control Panel) section below for more information on using the panel.
Using the Simulation Control Panel
-
Students can join the simulation by accessing the activity from their homepage under the corresponding course. Ensure they are enrolled in the course so they can see the simulation activity.
- If you've enabled Student Preview when creating the Simulation Activity, students will have access to a read-only copy of the patient. Accessing this patient will not start the simulation or alter data in any way.
- Click on the green "Start Simulation" button to begin your simulation.
- Set the start time for your simulation. This controls the clock students will see during the simulation.
- Name your simulation for easy reference later.
- Once you start the simulation, you'll receive a notification at the top right of your screen.
- The Simulation Control Panel offers the following features:
βΈοΈ Pause and Resume:Pause the clock for teachable moments. All simulations will pause, and students will see a blue notification. Resume with one click when ready.β© Fast Forward Time:Use Time Warp to advance the simulation clock for returning or long-term patients. Students receive a notification when time is moved forward.π¬ Trigger Events:Release pre-built events or add new information by charting in the patient's record during the simulation. Both methods send students a blue notification. Pre-Built events can be added in a patients template. See our Patient Template help page for more information on adding pre-built events to a template patient.π Reset Simulation:Reset your simulation with one click for a new group of students, clearing all past data.User Management:Add or Remove students to your simulation. Move students around between simulation runs as needed. While a simulation is running, students who are not part of the simulation will be taken to preview mode unless you add them to the current simulation run.Devices:Set a device to automatically take students to the simulation page after login. This works even if the students are not members of the Course β they'll be automatically added to the Course and taken to the simulation.
- After reset, you can review all past simulations at any time by clicking the "Select a Simulation Run" dropdown box on the top left of the panel. You can always remove students from old simulation runs and add them to your new run.
Device Management
Before using Devices in a Simulation, you'll need to first create the device in your profile.
- After signing-in from the device you wish to use, click your name at the top right. Click Devices.
- Create your Device. Add any users to also be able to manage the device.
- Once your Device is created, navigate to your Home Page and click Simulation Control for the Activity you wish to use with this Device.
- From the Control Panel, click Add Device. Select the Device you just created.
- You can now sign out. Any student or instructor who signs in on this Device will now automatically be taken to the Simulation's Activity Page for quick & easy access to Patient Scenarios. Users do not need to be part of the Course first β they will be automatically added to the Course if they aren't members already.
